Robert Watson presents “Can We Trust the Bible?” and delivers a moving and informational sermon on the many reasons we can know the Bible is worthy of our trust.
If any of you like facts, you will be pleased to know Robert gives the listener some solid numbers and examples to prove his point. He tells us that one of the reasons to trust the Bible is the number of manuscripts we’ve found of the Bible as compared to the number of other ancient manuscripts found from archaeological sources.
According to Robert’s numbers:
–Plato’s, “The Republic” only has seven copies, with 1,300 years between the original and the oldest copy.
–Caesar’s “Gallic Wars” has ten copies and 1,000 years between the original and the oldest copy.
–Homer’s “Iliad” has some better numbers at 400 years between original and the oldest copy with 643 copies found.
Now, astonishingly—the New Testament of the Bible has 28,000 manuscripts found with only 25 years between the original and the oldest copy. Yet, the secular world will believe the truth of these other ancient works and question the reliability of our Bible.
